5,000 images

Since January 2005 I have posted a total of 5,000 images on this photo-blog. The question I am now asking myself is: Is it time to stop? Any comments? I'll take a week off to consider. Jim.

I hope you don't stop Jim. Just think about what you are providing - a pretty damn unique archive of what Swansea and Gower look like in the first decade of the 21st Century. As the years roll by, your online photography gift which is your blog, will become a real treasure.

Speaking as an ex-pat now living in Canada, I would miss your posting very much. I lived in Cardiff for most of my youth and really miss the sea ... the sea and its environs that you capture so splendidly with your photography.

Ooh no! Please don't stop. I rarely comment, but enjoy your pics very much - I've subscribed to your blog in Google Reader. BTW, I saw you and your wife at Langland a couple of weeks ago, but you both whizzed by too quickly for me to introduce myself.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the comments.

I'm having a week off to see what responses I get. I really need to get a new camera and the one I want with a good lens is very expensive. I have a compact which is fine for grandchildren and family shots but if I continue the blog I'll certainly get a new camera. I really do appreciate your feedback and thanks for taking the time to write.

The comments you have received to date say it all. You are providing a unique 'view' and 'service' which is well appreciated, loved, by those who have been fortunate enough to find it. There is no option - you must keep going.
Moreover, you need to broaden your horizons if the opportunity arises, as we are hoping. Pictures of elsewhere, if we can combine this with the success of your other beloved service, the news service Daily Dose.

Hi Jim.
What can I say when it's already been said, except to add that I wholeheartedly agree with everyone's comments about you carrying on.
No one can compare with your style when it comes to observing and capturing details of everyday scenes. Others will pass those same scenes and moments by without a second glance.
Your glance (and talent) is to spot, photograph and display that detail beautifully in your blog.
Please don't even think of giving it up. I and so many others with miss it more than you know.
Being from the Killay and Dunvant area of Swansea (and now in Canada) biases me somewhat, but as Chris said - you are recording history - even if you don't know it!
Please do have second thoughts by all means - and then continue to do with what we all love and admire.

Hi Jim,

Enjoy the pictures enormously. Used to spend my summers in Gower as a kid and now get to share it with my family.

Wanted to add my thoughts to the other comments. I love to come to your blog. You've got an eye for amazing shots - things nobody else wouldn't even think of photographing. Please don't stop. I hope you are able to get that camera you need, but I can't imagine your photos being any better than they already are! =]

I spent my schooldays in Swansea and I enjoy your blog very much.
All bloggers seem to reach a point when they question whether they should continue. This blog is as much for you, Jim, as it is for us. So if you still enjoy taking the photos and maintaining the blog, then please carry on!

Dear Jim.

Please, don’t stop posting your pictures. For sure many, like myself, have enjoyed the Swansea scenes captured by your camera. For me it would be like moving away from our “lovely ugly town” once again.

Please don't!

It's great to see your work - sometimes after we have seen you around town looking for the muse

Thanks for the first 5000

Kind regards

Peter from Swansea

There is no one else doing a regular photoblog from Swansea (nor come to think of it anywhere in Wales that I'm aware of - well a couple but they are not too regular) so I do hope you continue in one way or another.

Only you can know if you want to continue or not. I have nothing to say about the quality of your pictures, but if you feel that you need another camera, I could say that sometimes I feel it too. I work with a little Sony Cyber-shot, and even though it's not as good as something more sophisticated, it has good sides too. First of all it's small and I can carry it with me all the time (in a pocket for instance) and I couldn't do that with a big one. So I haven't changed yet, and finally I think that I will not.

Dear Jim

Don't give up. We often see you and your lady trogging around Swansea and look forward to seeing the next shots. Perhaps one day we might be in them !!
Keep up the good work.

A big thank you to everyone who has commented. At the moment I am carrying on using my compact camera. I am finding my SLR too heavy as I have tendonitis of my left elbow at the moment. I may upgrade to a new SLR sometime but the compact does the job fine for recording the quirky things I see on my perambulations.
Thanks again for your kind comments - Jim
