Slip bridge latest
From a Council news bulletin http://www.swansea.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=6426
The Slip Bridge will be relocated to its new home, forming part of the much used cyclepath along Swansea’s seafront. The bridge will also form part of an extended route for the popular landtrain.
“The bridge will remain part of Swansea’s history and future when it is relocated to its new home.
“Work will be completed to give the bridge a new lease of life and remain as a prominent and striking feature of Swansea Bay. It will be preserved as a bridge for walkers, cyclists and the popular landtrain.
The historic bridge was removed following concerns over the condition of the structure. A condition survey by specialist bridge consultants later revealed serious problems.
Given the results of the structural assessment and the public interest in the bridge Swansea Council proceeded with a public consultation before making a decision on the bridge’s future.
“Although the result of the consultation failed to illustrate a favoured option the council have decided that re-installing the bridge in its original position would be too costly.
“It’s important that the council acknowledges the public support for the bridge but that it acts responsible in terms of future costs."
The authority will now proceed with the planning application relating to the bridge's new home.

This sign used to be located on the sea front at West cross - I don't think it's there now. I'll check when I walk that way next. The photograph was sent to me by John Ridd from New Milford, Connecticut, USA.
